Smart thermostat rebates

OPPD’s Smart Thermostat Program has new rebates available for customers interested in saving on their electric bill while helping OPPD curb demand during peak times.

The promotion also includes more smart thermostat models from multiple manufacturers that are eligible for rebates of up to $100 available at checkout.

The promotion gives customers more options for upgrading to a smart thermostat and participating in OPPD’s Smart Thermostat program.

Customers can order one of the thermostats available as part of this promotion online. More information about the program, including trusted installation partners, can also be found on OPPD’s Smart Thermostat page.

Customers who install a qualifying smart thermostat and enroll in the program also receive an additional $30 bill credit each year they participate. There is also a rebate of up to $75 towards the professional installation cost available.

“Upgrading to a smart thermostat is a proven way to effortlessly save energy and money on your utility bills,” said Melissa Boldt, senior B2C Marketing strategist at OPPD. “Customers who participate are also helping OPPD curb demand on our hottest days of the year, so it is a win-win for both the customer and OPPD.”

How does the program work?

OPPD may declare a high-demand “event” and manage a customer’s air-conditioner through their smart thermostat on very hot days, when demand tends to be highest.

Before such an event, the customer will receive a proactive notification both on their thermostat and via their thermostat-management application.

During an event, after a one-hour pre-cooling period, the thermostat will adjust the temperature one to three degrees higher.

After the event (no longer than four hours in duration), the thermostat-management app will return the thermostat to the desired setting.
