Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is moving forward with a new housing development in Omaha with a little help from OPPD.
OPPD crews and two tree contractors, Asplundh and Wright Tree Service, cleared trees and temporarily removed power lines to make way for the new neighborhood near 51st Street and Sorensen Parkway in Omaha.

The new Bluestem Prairie development will offer new homeownership opportunities for families of all sizes, ages and income levels.
Eventually, the neighborhood will include walking and bike trails, sports courts, picnic pavilions, an amphitheater, a playground and a park.
For the project’s first phase, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is adding 85 new homes on the 19-acre lot, with an expected 2025 completion date.

Various home layouts will help diversify the neighborhood and serve the needs of various households, including empty-nesters, individuals and multi-generational families.
Builders are also renovating another 15 homes nearby.
The second phase will add 64 new homes on a 15-acre lot in 2026. Sidewalks will connect the neighborhood to the surrounding community.
