September is National Preparedness Month. While the severe storm season may be winding down in the Midwest, winter — and its dangerous weather — is just around the corner.

You can take control before a disaster strikes by taking a few minutes to gather items you probably already have lying around your house to create a disaster preparation kit.

If you have all of these items ready to go, you won’t waste precious time getting your family to safety when those sirens go off.
