WHAT IS IT? The number of turbines that will produce electricity at the Sholes Wind Energy Center in northeast Nebraska.

The turbines will produce up to 160 megawatts of renewables energy for OPPD customers after construction is completed in 2019. The facility is owned and operated by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources; OPPD has a 20-year contract with the company to purchase 100 percent of the facility’s generation.

The addition of Sholes will allow 40 percent of OPPD’s customer usage to be supplied with renewables, and a total renewable portfolio of more than 971 megawatts.

Turbines at the facility will be up to 90 meters tall from the ground to the hub (nacelle) in the center of the blades.
