After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Public Power Day of Giving returned this year. Each year, the American Public Power Association (APPA) kicks off its national conference and its commitment to community service with the Public Power Day of Giving.
Public power is a proud part of Nebraska’s history, serving the entire state since 1946. In conjunction with APPA’s efforts, OPPD employees volunteered to serve during the week of June 6.
Employees from several departments pitched in to help Food Bank of the Heartland, Council Bluffs Together Food Pantry, Nebraska Diaper Bank and Lauritzen Gardens. And on June 24, a group of employees from will be assisting Lutheran Family Services.
Jeni Radik, a contributor to The Wire, is a jack-of-all-trades. She landed in the OPPD call center in 2008, graduating to Corporate Marketing & Communications. With 25 years’ worth of customer service skills, she morphed into a communications assistant, which is a good fit. When Jeni is not studying, she is spending time with her children, reveling with her grandchildren and bowling (she once rolled a perfect 300), among other activities.
