The votes have been tallied, and Yin and Yang were the overwhelming favorites in the naming contest for this year’s falcon chicks at North Omaha Station.
Out of more 1,000 responses, nearly 40% of voters selected the names Yin and Yang, possibly inspired by the chicks’ contrasting personalities.
Thelma and Louise came in second with 13% of the vote, followed by Florence and Fontenelle with 10%.
You can see the chicks’ personalities on display in the video taken on banding day.
Yang, banded first, was energetic and feisty, squawking loudly to let everyone in the room know about her displeasure with the entire situation. Her band is 47/AS.
Yin was smaller and calmer. She did voice a few mild objections as volunteers weighed and measured her, but she didn’t cause anywhere near the racket her sister did. Her band is 48/AS.
Both chicks have been stretching their wings in recent days, preparing to fledge. Keep an eye on their livestream at OPPD.com/FalconLive so you can catch their first flights.
The chicks’ names and identifying information will be officially registered with the Midwest Peregrine Society.

They bring Lewis and Clark’s offspring count to 12. They join siblings Storm, Flicker, Flash, Volta, Watt, Ohm, Ampere, Thunder, Lightning, and Beak Randby in 2025.
Two of those siblings, Ohm and Storm, have been spotted in Nebraska this year; Ohm spent time with his mother before Lewis returned for the season, and Storm is nesting at Nebraska City Station.
