For the last decade, OPPD has provided customers with information about outages through its online Storm & Outage Center. Customers knew they could rely on the website – and related social media posts – for the latest outage information.
Now that OPPD has a new, more comprehensive outage map, the Storm & Outage site has been retired. But customers now have access to even more outage-related information.
The new map, part of the OPPD’s new MyOPPD customer platform, provides detailed, real-time information for outages throughout OPPD’s service area – including outage causes and estimated times of restoration, information once provided in posts on Storm & Outage.
For large, generally storm-related outage events expected to last multiple days, OPPD will still post rolling updates, including the latest on restoration work and the scope of damage, along with photos and reports from workers in the field, and more.
Those rolling updates will now appear on The Wire, OPPD’s news website, during major outages. During those events, customers will find a link across the top of the outage map page that will take them to that day’s updates, or they can simply go straight to oppdthewire.com, where they will find the latest outage information in the lead item on the page.
The new map combines tracking and reporting tools, plus an optional weather overlay to show where storms are hitting. It shows clusters of outages, the number of customers without power and the total number of customers served by OPPD. Clicking on an outage cluster will reveal more detailed information, without revealing the status of individual customers to protect their privacy. Users can subscribe to an outage to receive notifications as updates on that event become available.
OPPD unveiled the map over the summer as part of its broader rollout of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) technology.
